Custom Gusset Plates for Frames, Shelving and Timber

A right triangle with holes along both legs that stiffens a corner; the template is called "Gusset" in the configurator. You enter both leg lengths, the hole diameter and the holes per leg, and the rest follows. It is cut from structural steel S355MC up to 6 mm, steel DC01, stainless or aluminium, depending on whether it is welded, bolted or mounted outdoors.

Triangular gusset plate with three holes, laser-cut

What it is for: Corner connectors for frames of square tube and angle, bracing for shelving and workbenches, connectors for posts and beams in timber work, brackets for stands and machine frames, reinforcement on gates and fences.

Price per piece incl. VAT, plus shipping, for equal legs with two to three holes per leg, computed when this page loads. Structural steel S355MC in 3 to 6 mm, the material for load-bearing corners, is available in the configurator.

The limits that matter for this plate

  • Size: each leg 15 to 500 mm, independently. The hypotenuse is straight; the three corners can be rounded up to 30 mm.
  • Holes: 0 to 6 per leg, up to 15 mm diameter, with edge distance and pitch of your choice. Both legs get the same pattern; with no holes it is a weld-on plate.
  • Material and thickness: structural steel S355MC in 3 to 6 mm, steel DC01 up to 2.5 mm, stainless 1.4301 up to 5 mm, aluminium AlMg3 up to 4 mm. We do not galvanise or paint; outdoors, use stainless or aluminium.
  • Tolerance: ISO 2768-m, which is ±0.3 mm over 120 mm and ±0.5 mm up to 400 mm. Hole centres are placed to the same accuracy; enough for clearance holes, not for fits.
  • Flat: the plate is cut, not bent. An angle with two legs at a right angle is a different template, the L-bracket.

Common questions about custom gusset plates

Which material for a load-bearing gusset?
Structural steel S355MC, the steel builders use, in 3 to 6 mm. It welds and drills well. If the plate goes outdoors and you cannot have it galvanised, take stainless 1.4301, or aluminium AlMg3 in 4 mm where weight matters.
Can I weld the plate on instead of bolting it?
Yes. Set the holes per leg to 0 and we cut the plain triangle. S355MC and DC01 weld with MAG without trouble, stainless with TIG; the cut edge is clean and only needs degreasing before welding.
Do both legs have to be the same length?
No. Base and height are separate sizes; a plate of 80 × 200 mm is as possible as 100 × 100 mm. The hole pattern is computed for each leg on its own, so the edge distance stays the same everywhere.
Do the holes suit timber screws and anchor bolts?
For 6 mm timber screws take a 7 mm hole, for M10 bolts 11 mm, for M12 13.5 mm. The pitch is free; keep at least the hole diameter to the edge so the plate does not tear out under load.
Can the plate have another shape, such as slots or a cutout?
In the sketcher, yes: open the template there, draw slots instead of holes or cut off the tip. For a shape entirely your own, upload a DXF; the price is still there at once.
