Metal Lettering and Letters with Your Text

Here the letters are the part: your word is cut from the sheet and stands on a narrow bar along its baseline, so the lettering leaves the laser in one piece. The template is called "Positive Text" in the configurator. Type the text, choose a font and size, the bar follows the width of the text, and the price is right beside it.

What it is for: Name lettering on front doors and garden gates, house numbers in metal, company names for reception and shop fronts, logo lettering on a wall, wall words for living rooms and cafés, lettering for weddings, birthdays and gifts.

Price per piece incl. VAT, plus shipping, for the lettering "DYNAMIC PARTS" in Liberation Sans Bold, computed when this page loads with the configurator's own formula. The font size is what the configurator shows; capitals are about 70 % of it high, so 28 mm at 40 mm. More letters mean more cutting and a higher price; the bar is 8 mm high in every row.

The limits that matter for this lettering

  • Text: one line of up to 40 characters, umlauts and punctuation included. A second lettering is a second part.
  • Font: 5 to 200 mm font size in seven faces. Liberation Sans Bold is the default and the sturdiest; thin or stencil faces fall into pieces, which the configurator ties back on with bridges.
  • Stroke width: the thinnest part of a letter should be at least as wide as the sheet is thick, so 2 mm in 2 mm steel. In Liberation Sans Bold that holds from about 15 mm font size; the configurator only warns well below that.
  • Bar: 2 to 100 mm high, the text overlaps it by an adjustable 0.5 to 50 mm, the corners can be rounded. The dots of i and j and umlaut dots are tied on with bridges of 0.5 to 10 mm.
  • Material: steel DC01, stainless 1.4301, aluminium AlMg3 or structural steel S355MC up to 6 mm, spring steel up to 1 mm. The template has no holes for screws; add them to the bar in the sketcher.

Common questions about metal lettering

Are the letters joined, or do they come separately?
Joined: all letters stand on a bar along the baseline, so the lettering is one part and mounts in one piece. If you want single letters, take the "Single Letter" template and order one part per letter.
Does it work as a house number?
Yes. Digits and a letter like "12a" at 100 to 150 mm font size in 3 mm stainless make a house number that reads from the street. The bar underneath takes the screws; add the holes for them in the sketcher.
Which material for outdoors?
Stainless 1.4301 stays bright without care, aluminium AlMg3 goes matt and otherwise stays as it is. Steel DC01 and S355MC rust outdoors; as a deliberate rust look that is fine, otherwise the steel needs paint, which we do not offer.
How do I mount the lettering?
Small lettering with mounting tape or adhesive on the back of the bar. Large lettering with screws or standoffs through holes in the bar; open the template in the sketcher for that and add two to four holes. Then make the bar at least 12 mm high.
How large can lettering get?
Up to 200 mm font size. The length follows the text: "DYNAMIC PARTS" is about 67 cm long at 80 mm and about 1.7 m at 200 mm. Parts up to 1150 mm long can be ordered online, which is what ships as a parcel. The configurator shows the overall size; split a longer text into two parts.
