Custom Hinge Plates With a Row of Holes

A rectangular plate with a row of holes along one edge; the template is called "Hinge Plate" in the configurator. It carries a hinge, a strap or a fitting where the wood or sheet underneath does not hold, and spreads the screws over a larger area. The hinge itself, knuckle and pin, is not included; we cut the flat plate.

What it is for: Repair plates for torn-out hinges on cupboards and doors, reinforcing plates for gate and flap hinges, mounting plates for fittings, straps for box and chest lids, mounting plates for hinges on aluminium profiles.

The limits that matter for this plate

  • Size: 20 to 400 mm wide, 15 to 200 mm high, corner radius up to 20 mm.
  • Row of holes: 2 to 8 holes of up to 15 mm, evenly spaced on a line parallel to the edge. The edge offset of 5 to 30 mm is measured to the hole centre, from the edge and from both ends. Make it at least half the hole diameter plus the sheet thickness, and leave at least one sheet thickness between two holes; the configurator checks neither. We do not cut countersinks for countersunk screws.
  • Material and thickness: steel DC01 1 to 2.5 mm, structural steel S355MC 3 to 6 mm, stainless 1.4301 1 to 5 mm, aluminium AlMg3 1 to 4 mm; for outdoors, stainless or aluminium.
  • No hinge: the plate is flat; there is no knuckle, pin or rolled eye. Screw or weld a finished hinge onto it.
  • Tolerance: ISO 2768-m, so the hole spacing holds ±0.3 mm over 120 mm. If the plate has to match existing holes, measure centre to centre and give the holes 0.5 mm of clearance.

Common questions about custom hinge plates

Can I get countersunk holes for wood screws?
No, the laser only cuts straight holes. For countersunk screws, countersink them yourself with a cone countersink; in aluminium and thin steel a drill does it. Or use pan-head screws, which need no countersink.
Which thickness for a repair plate?
In furniture, 1.5 to 2 mm steel or stainless is enough, thin enough that the gap to the door barely changes. For gates and flaps outdoors, take 3 to 5 mm stainless or structural steel S355MC.
Can the plate have holes on two sides?
The template puts one row along one edge. A second row, a hole pattern for a concealed hinge or a cut-out is added in the sketcher; for a grid across the whole plate, the mounting plate is the better template.
Will the plate rust outdoors?
Steel DC01 and S355MC rust without paint or galvanising. For outdoors take stainless 1.4301 or aluminium, which need no treatment.
